Profile

Sammy is a Journalist and a Lawyer. He has over a decade of experience in journalism working for both foreign and local media organizations. Until December 2015, Sammy Darko was the BBC World Service correspondent for Ghana. Sammy has worked across most media platforms including tv, radio and online for BBC World Service and BBC Domestic audience. Sammy is an Associate at Cromwell Gray LLP, private law firm in Accra. Sammy has also been a lecturer at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) since November 2016 teaching and researching into media law, business communication and journalism. He is also a media trainer/facilitator.

PRESENTER, PRODUCER, REPORTER JOY FM
For almost five years, Sammy worked for Joy Fm a leading private fm radion in Ghana. He bugun as a reporter including reporting from the courts and subsequently became the Parliamentary Correspondent.
CONSULTING NEWS EDITOR, STARR FM
Sammy was instrumental in setting up of the News Department of Accra based Starr fm in 2014;new entrant into the English radio market. He worked on the recruitment of news staff and a Managing Editor. With his team, they executed a news strategy to break into the Ghanaian market. Sammy did extra work such as filing special reports and training of in house journalists.
SALES SUPERVISOR, FOREWIN GHANA LIMITED
Before media work Sammy worked as a sales representative for firm Forewin Ghana limited. Started with the Jumbo cube division selling spices then rose to become Sales Supervisor for the Peak Milk division. He merchandized peak milk.

Speaker: (October, 2017) Editors Liaison Workshop on Oil and Gas in Koforidua, Ghana. Topic; “Strategies for newsrooms to improve on quality of reporting key issues in the oil and gas sector”.
Groupe Ndoum (Media): In 2016, Groupe Ndoum (media) engaged me to train all media houses under the group-radio, TV, newspapers, on election reporting for the 2016 general elections.
 
Oxfam: In 2016, Oxfam hired me to do Media Spokesperson Training for seven of its top specialist staff in Ghana.
 
BBC Media Action: I worked with BBC Media Action in the training of selected Ghanaian journalists on Reporting Ebola.
 
Citi Fm: I was part of the facilitators for Citi FM/Star Ghana Election Project in June 2016. The project trained over a dozen reporters on election reporting skills.
   
Media Foundation for West Africa [MFWA]: I conducted two separate trainings for MFWA. 1. Editorial training for 3 media houses including A 1 radio in Upper East Region in 2013. 2. Offered training on how to report on the Ebola outbreak for more than a dozen journalists across the country in 2015.
INTERNATIONAL ASSIGNMENTS
I have covered one of the biggest technology fairs-Mobile World Congress in Spain. I have also been to German and Sao Tome and Principe to cover activities of the United States Africa Command and US Naval Forces African Partnership Station Project. I was also in Kenya to cover Samsung African forum; in Liberia to cover the first flight of Virgin Nigeria to Liberia; in South Africa for the digital migration summit; and in Nigeria for training in Early Warning Systems of ECOWAS; I was also in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea to cover the deadly Ebola outbreak.
